Abstract The historiographic atlas of the Spanish National Police is a research tool which, based on chronological criteria as well as scientific methodology, aims to order the facts, data and actors related to the history of the Police Force. The historiographical lines and publications issued so far have been studied, the first ones based on the work by police historians themselves, with a first stage which can be described as data collection and organisation, of high quality; and a second stage which began in the 1980s, based on a rigorous and scientific methodology in terms of the treatment of the sources and the existent bibliography in the realm of the new police historians. Likewise, the academic stream centred on the research by university historians and academic institutions, most of them focused on another object of study though, indirectly provides approaches and interpretations of police history which cannot be overlooked and, therefore, such an academic stream was analysed and added to the Police Historiographic Atlas. The main purpose of this atlas is to contribute to the completion of the aforementioned research, without overlooking a specific analysis of the actors, of the legal norms issued which have not been analysed in detail, as well as to carry out an exegesis of them, all within the framework of the historical relations between Spain and its police from 13 January 1824 to 13 January 2024.
